View and manage file import sessions

Network-attached storage is a file-level storage architecture that makes stored data more accessible to networked devices.

Prerequisites

See Roles and associated permissions to determine the user roles that can perform this task.

About this task

See Understanding PowerMax File for storage systems for an overview of PowerMax File.

See the following for more information on file import: Importing file external storage to PowerMax overview, Overview of the file import process, General requirements for importing data, General requirements for importing data, Restrictions and limitations for SMB-only VDM file import, Restrictions and limitations for NFS-only VDM file import, and Restrictions and limitations for Multi-Protocol VDM file import.

For a file import, a File migration network must be configured, and the source storage system must be added to the PowerMax cluster prior to creating a file import session. As part of the file import process, the source VDM is pre-validated whether it is ready to be imported. The basic configuration (NAS server name, file systems, production interfaces) of the source file server must not change after the file import session is created. A file import session is not allowed when either a non-disruptive upgrade or a network reconfiguration is in progress.

NOTE: Only NAS servers that have a status of Ready can be imported.

A file-based import session runs as a background job and establishes an end-to-end path for an import operation between a source and destination. The data follows the path as it moves from source to destination.

Steps

  1. Select a storage system that supports PowerMax File migration.
  2. Select Data Protection > File Migration.
  3. Select File Imports.

    The following properties display:

    • Session Name—Name of the session
    • Type—Session type
    • Import State—Status of the import, for example, Initialized, Ready_to_Cutover, Canceled, Error, Completed
    • Current Operation—Status of the current operation, for example, Initialized, Initial_Provisioning, Ready_to_Cutover, Canceled, Completed
    • Current Operation Progress Percentage—Percentage progress of the current operation
    • Health—Health indicator
